Ayushi Podder Biography

 

If shooters pull out the rifle and aim it at a target, the only thing important is their target. The rest of the world fades away. The thought of winning loads is etched in their minds, the instinct will be the trigger. If their years of waking upearly, putting in more hours to training and giving up your favourite food are worth it in this moment. It is to this moment that 19-year-old Ayushi Podder works hard!

Each time Ayushi is shooting, her aim is greater than the "Bullseye" shot. Ayushi aims to get the Podium Finish! Each time she presses her finger on the trigger, she fires the bullet toward her goal of having an Olympic medal hung on her neck, and the tricolored flag fluttering over her.

Aayushi is an aspiring junior rifle shooter and the most recent young sensation in shooting from India to gain prominence in the field, following Manu Bhaker and Gayathri nityanadam, Mehuli Ghosh and others. Born on the 23rd day of October in 1999, Aayushi comes from Sheoraphuli, Hooghly of West Bengal.

Aayushi's enthusiasm and skill in shooting comes directly from her dad Pankaj Podder, who himself was an ex- Indian shooter and International Shooting Sport Federation ( ISSF) certified accredited coach.

Schooling Days And Sacrificed Dreams

Aayushi was totally devoted to studying during her time in the Techno Indian Public School. It was surprising that although she had been exposed shooting at an early age, she showed almost any passion for shooting.

At the age of seven, Aayushi was seven years old, she was able to create a portfolio with the intention of becoming an actor or model. Aayushi also attended dance classes at a Classical Odisha style and participated in various school-related events.

In this time of her life, Pankaj used to travel across the country to participate in matches. Aayushi was not aware that she would one day follow in his path. As a scholar who excelled in school, Aayushi wished to study MBBS as a teenager.

Start of Shooting Career

Things turned a bit quickly when her father encouraged her to try shooting. Pankaj spoke about his goal of watching his daughter follow in his steps. "When my child was only five year old, I was thinking that she could become the next shot Olympic champion," Pankaj says.

She began training to help her father. Within seven days of being able to hold her air rifle Ayushi became a national champion!

"It it was the first time I competed in a time competing and I already had a title!" she declares, her excitement clearly heard in her voice. Her first major victory prompted Junior Podder to take up shooting.

With her father's strong support that was a guarantee, there was no turning back. As time passed by, Aayushi immersed herself into the sport and found an exciting new sport to shed blood for. As she demonstrated her determination and enthusiasm in shooting her school's teachers and principal also began to lend their support to her when she embarked on her new adventure.

However, to be successful in the shooting discipline the perfect shot, athletes require the most focused focus. For Ayushi the concentration and focus came easily. This is the reason she was able to get excellent marks. "I'm proficient in academics. Focus and concentration are crucial and these two qualities assisted me shooting quite a bit."

Ayushi also realized the importance of perfection both in her sport and in her daily life. When she was in the beginning of her working out, the father of her told her "Ayushi is the only one who can take a perfect sight image". These words have been a huge help to her on the international stage. They've been embedded in her brain. "Perfection is essential," she tells.

After becoming the state champion, Ayushi won the pre-national championship for juniors in the youth category the month following. Within an entire time, Aayushi has secured her spot at the Indian team camp. Soon after, she was selected for the Asian air gun team, and in the following year, she earned her first gold medal in international competition at the ISSF Junior World Cup 2016, Suhl, Germany.

The challenges faced by Indian athletes

Achieving success as an athlete in India isn't as simple. It's true that Ayushi is no exception. The young shooter has plenty of unremarkable stories to share from her trips to various locations for competitions. One of them happened on returning from Asian Junior Championship in Doha, Qatar.

Ayushi as well as her teammates arrived at 5 am on the outskirts of New Delhi from a long and exhausting journey. At this point when she finds out that she will be competing in the 11 AM slot for competing in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions competition at the All India Inter-University Championship. With a lack of sleep and hunger the young shooter competed in the competition and was able to take home the bronze medal.

When she came up with this story, Ayushi opened up about the incident without regret. She doesn't blame her fatigue or sleep deprivation for her failure. Also, she does not blame lack of planning and organisation by the organizers.

This morning, Aayushi laughs it off. This is an additional addition to the lengthy list of organizational and structural issues that athletes have faced and continue to face in the system of sports in India.

At the time of the World Championship in Changwon, Korea, Ayushi had to be separated by eight days from the time she arrived until match day. She was not able to practice for the entire eight days due to the scheduling of other events. Additionally, her rifle was worn out. It was a terrible experience in the contest.

In addition Ayushi's father as well as her coach were unable to accompany her on her travels because of budgetary problems. Another issue facing athletes in India in the present. The athletes are in financial straits to purchase equipment, travel for training, eat nutritious food and many more.

The balance between education and shooting

While juggling academics, shooting lessons and globe-trotting to attend occasions, Aayushi's grades in school did not drop. After graduating from high school she decided to pursue an education in Humanities and was able to take time to devote her time to studying and shooting.

Presently, Ayushi Podder is pursuing her undergrad degree in Public Administration at Punjab University at the same at the same time as she trains and participates in competitions. But, Ayushi believes that it could not have been achieved without the support of her school and the management.

Ayushi has no attendance bar because of her inclusion in the Sports Quota. She can exercise all year long and is only required to sit for examinations. If competitions or selections conflict with her examinations The college schedules specific dates to allow her to take the test.

A moment in the daily life Ayushi Podder

As her father did, Ayushi travels a lot. All through each year Ayushi is a participant in at minimum ten competitions in her country. There are also trials for selection and two or three competitions internationally the course of a year. Apart from her travels to various events, she frequently goes to Delhi to practice in Dr Karni Shooting range. Dr Karni Shooting range, since it's the only shooting range that she can train at for the 50-meter categories.

Ayushi must also travel to Chandigarh to go to university frequently. Between training, competitions, and college, she's hardly in a position to stay at home.

A typical day for the youthful shooter in West Bengal begins at 5.30 am. She rises, gets fresh up, and enjoys a gentle warming-up. In 7.30 morning, Aayushi is on the breakfast table. After breakfast, she heads off to train.
