Ayushi Podder Biography

If shooters pull out the rifle and aim it and aim, all important is their target. The rest of the world fades away. The thought of winning loads is etched in their heads, their instincts will be the trigger. If their years of waking early, working additional hours of training and giving up your favourite food are worth it right now. It is at this point that 19-year-old Ayushi Podder is training for!

Each time Ayushi shoots, her goal is greater than the "Bullseye" shot. Ayushi aims at the Podium Finish! Each time she puts her trigger, she shoots the bullet toward her goal of having an Olympic medal that hangs on her neck, with the tri-colored flag flying over her.

Aayushi is a junior rifle shooter , and the newest young sensation in shooting from India to make waves in the sport , following Manu Bhaker and Gayathri Nthyanadam, Mehuli Ghosh and others. Born on the 23rd of October, 1999, Aayushi is from Sheoraphuli, Hooghly of West Bengal.

Aayushi's enthusiasm and skill in shooting stem directly from her dad Pankaj Podder, who himself was an ex- Indian shooter as well as an International Shooting Sport Federation ( ISSF) licensed and accredited coach.

Schooling Days And Sacrificed Dreams

Aayushi was completely dedicated to her studying during her time in the Techno Indian Public School. It was surprising that even though she was exposed to sports from a young age, she displayed very little or zero desire to shoot.

As a child, Aayushi was seven years old, she completed a portfolio with the hope of becoming an actor or model. She also learned to dance at a Classical Odisha style and participated in various school-related events.

In this time of her life, Pankaj used to travel across states to participate in matches. Aayushi was not aware that she would one day follow in his steps. As a scholar who excelled in school, Aayushi wished to study MBBS as she grew older.

Start of Shooting Career

Things changed quickly when her father encouraged her to try shooting. Pankaj confessed to his dream of watching his daughter follow in his steps. "When the daughter I had was barely five and a half, I had the idea that she could become the next shot Olympic gold medalist" Pankaj explains.

She began training to help her father. Within seven days of being able to hold an air gun, Ayushi had already been crowned a champion in the state!

"It it was the first time I competed in a event and I already had a title!" she boasts, with excitement heard in her voice. Her first major win spurred Junior Podder to take up shooting.

With her father's steady support and support, she was never looking back. As time passed by, Aayushi immersed herself into the sport and found an exciting new sport to be a bleeder for. With her determination and drive to shoot, the principal and teachers also began to lend their support to her as she began her next adventure.

To excel in the field of shooting the perfect shot, athletes require the most focused focus. For Ayushi her concentration and focus came effortlessly. This is the reason she could get excellent scores. "I'm proficient in academics. Concentration and focus are essential and these two abilities assisted me shooting quite a bit."

Ayushi has also realized the importance of perfection in both her sporting and personal daily life. When she was in the beginning of her practicing, she's father advised herthat "Ayushi is the only one who can take a perfect sight image". These words have been a huge help to her on the international stage. They've been incorporated into her brain. "Perfection is important," she tells.

After becoming the state champion, Ayushi won the pre-national championship in junior-senior youth the month following. Within one calendar year Aayushi was able to secure her spot to participate at the Indian team camp. Soon after, she was selected for the Asian air gun team, and within a year, she won her first international gold medal at the ISSF Junior World Cup 2016, Suhl, Germany.

Indian athletes face challenges Indian athletes

Achieving success as an athlete in India is not as simple as it sounds. It's true that Ayushi isn't an exception. She has a lot of unremarkable stories to share from her travels to different locations to compete in tournaments. One of these stories occurred upon she returned from Asian Junior Championship in Doha, Qatar.

Ayushi along with her group been able to land at 5 AM at New Delhi from a long and exhausting journey. At this point when she finds out that she is scheduled for an 11:00 AM slot to participate in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the All India Inter-University Championship. With a lack of sleep and hunger the young shooter took part in the competition and won bronze.

When she came up with this story, Ayushi opened up about the incident without regret. She is not blaming her insufficiency of sleep or hunger for her loss. Also, she does not blame ineffective planning of the organizers.

The moment is now, Aayushi laughs it off. But, this is an additional addition to the lengthy list of organizational and structural issues that athletes have experienced and are facing within the sport's ecosystem in India.

In the World Championship in Changwon, Korea, Ayushi had to be separated by eight days from the time she arrived until match day. She was not able to practice for the entire eight days because of the scheduling of other events. Furthermore, her rifle was worn out. It gave her a bad experience at the event.

In addition Ayushi's father as well as her coach were unable to join her on a trip due to financial problems. Another issue that athletes face in India in the present. The athletes are in financial straits to purchase equipment, travel for training, eat nutritious food and many more.

The balance between education and shooting

Despite having to balance academics with shooting classes and traveling for events, her grade at school was never lowered. After graduation from high school she decided to take an education in Humanities and was able to take time to devote her time to the study of her subject and shooting.

At present, Ayushi Podder is pursuing her undergrad degree in Public Administration at Punjab University at the same as training and participating in competitions. But, Ayushi believes that it wouldn't have been possible without the support of her school and the management.

Ayushi is not able to use an attendance bar because of her inclusion in the Sports Quota. She can practice all the time and only attends to write tests. If the competitions or choices clash with her examinations The college schedules specific dates to allow her to take the test.

A moment in the daily life Ayushi Podder

Like her father, Ayushi travels a lot. All through each year Ayushi takes part in at least ten national competitions. There are also trials for selection and two or three competitions internationally the course of a year. Apart from her travels to various events, she frequently goes to Delhi to train in Dr Karni Shooting range. Dr Karni Shooting range, since it's the only shooting range in which she is able to train for the 50-meter categories.

Ayushi must also travel to Chandigarh to go to university frequently. Between training, competitions, and college, she's not capable of staying at her home.

A typical day for the youthful shooter in West Bengal begins at 5.30 morning. She rises, gets fresh up and then has a quick warming-up. In 7.30 morning, Aayushi is on the breakfast table. After breakfast, she heads off for her training.
