In Buenos Aires, Argentina, on May 19, 1929, the French Federation of Basque Pelota, the Spanish Federation of Basque Pelota, and the Argentinian Federation of Basque Pelota came together to form the International Federation of Basque Pelota. They were joined in this endeavour by the Argentinian Federation of Basque Pelota.

In April of 1947, France became the birthplace of the FIVB.

The sport of basketball is governed on a global scale by the International Basketball Federation, which is an association of various national basketball governing bodies.
